Walk to School is a newer Ecology Action program introduced in the Fall of 2009. Walking to school is one of the easiest, healthiest and most cost-effective ways of getting to and from school. When children walk to school they start the day energized and ready to learn. Ecology Action is helping to resurrect this important habit and joining an international movement that celebrates walking to school every fall.
Although October is “official” Walk to School month across the globe, with over 42 countries participating, we hope to create an appetite for monthly, weekly or even daily walking events. We offer prize incentives to children who walk to school on designated days. We are currently working with local schools to create “Walking School Buses” where children walk designated routes with adult supervision. We hope to build a county-wide Walk to School program that continues year round with school support
