Bike to School

Bike to School Day is a bi-annual event held throughout the county that encourages students to bike to school. This program strives to motivate students to bike to school by providing free breakfast, peer support, and prize incentives. By encouraging students to safely ride to and from school, we aim to reduce childhood obesity, traffic at school sites, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Since it’s inception in 1995, the Santa Cruz County Bike to School Day has grown to reach over 5,000 students at 43 schools each year. Ecology Action offers technical support to any school within Santa Cruz County interested in coordinating and promoting a Bike to School Day event. We provide various resources for Bike to School Day events, including:

  • Training for new site coordinators
  • Bicycle safety information and resources
  • Promotional materials (including posters, brochures, t-shirts and more)
  • Food and prize incentives

If you are interested in hosting or volunteering at a Bike to School Day event, contact Nick Mucha at 831.426.5925 ext. 128.
