Goals to Consider for 2010-2015

Complete survey results from the 2010 voting process

1. Develop local sustainable food system: All community members have access to affordable locally grown food produced in a sustainable manner that preserves farmland fertility. 831 votes

2. Support Clean/Alternative Energy: Use of clean alternative energy and sustainable fuels are increased through increased financial incentives and reduced policy barriers. 797 votes

3. Healthy Oceans and Shorelines: Litter is decreased in our towns, along our rivers, and on our beaches. 532 votes

4. Livable Urban Density: More housing is developed that meet the needs of all community members near transit, job centers, and within complete neighborhoods, at a density sufficient to allow walking and biking between destinations. 548 votes

5. Preserve and Increase Open Space: Open space acreage is increased and includes the preservation of prime farmland 458 votes

6. Restrict Urban Development: Greenbelts and forests are preserved and urban growth boundaries are established. 406 votes

7. Improve Sustainable Transportation: Single passenger auto use is reduced by improving bike safety and connectivity of bike lanes/paths, increasing bus route frequency, and expanding employer/government supported trip reduction incentives. 664 votes

8. Improve Regional Transportation: Public transportation routes and ridership are increased between north and south Santa Cruz County, and between Santa Cruz County, Monterey County, and the SF Bay Area. 457 votes

9. Reduce Water Use/Increase Water Conservation: Total water use by residents, businesses and farmers is reduced. 553 votes

10. Reduce Water Pollution: Health of rivers and ocean is improved by reducing erosion, chemical and biological pollution, and improving riparian corridors. 987 votes

11. Develop Organic Waste Collection System: Curbside and/or decentralized composting resources and services are available for all homes and businesses for all organic wastes. 311 votes

12. Promote a Sustainable Local Green Economy: Increase and retain local green jobs, businesses and services through increased training, incentives, job placement services, and preferential purchasing policies. 652 votes

13. Reduce Climate Change: Reduce county-wide greenhouses gas emissions by increasing programs and policies to reduce and respond to climate change. 334 votes
