Senior Human Resources Generalist

JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Human Resources Generalist works under the general direction of the VP, General Services to administer HR policies, procedures and programs for a rapidly growing organization with 70 employees. The position is directly responsible for all day-to-day operations pertaining to Human Resources. The position works closely with Finance staff regarding compensation and payroll. The position also works with Communications to promote the organization. As needed, the position provides administrative support to the VP and serves as backup to other General Services positions.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This description is a general statement of required major duties and responsibilities performed on a regular basis. It does not exclude other duties as assigned.
• Supports all aspects of the organization’s human resources policies, procedures, and practices.
• Recruits new employees.
• Conducts telephone screening of job applicants.
• Administers the hiring process by scheduling interviews, preparing offers, and communicating with candidates.
• Advises and works with hiring managers to select new employees.
• Conducts orientations with new employees and coordinates new staff “on-boarding” process.
• Maintains information about training opportunities for staff and helps staff to obtain appropriate training or other professional development.
• Administers the employee benefits program (cafeteria plan and 401k).
• Prepares job descriptions.
• Advises managers in setting performance objectives and evaluating staff.
• Performs compensation analyses for specific positions.
• Monitors compliance with federal and state laws.
• Coordinates the activities of temporary HR staff and consultants.
• Provides extra support as needed for off-site staff.
• Coordinates recruitment, placement, and management of interns.
• Assists with scheduling and managing temporary workers.
• Demonstrates a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues, files and data.
• Recommends policy changes to meet changing circumstances.
• Administers the semi-monthly timesheets process.
• Maintains the HR database and other records.
• Clearly and accurately communicates with employees about personnel policies and procedures.
• Assists the Communications Coordinator to promote the organization and inform the public about its programs.
• Interacts with the public at conferences, fairs, and other events.
• Covers for other General Services staff, primarily Reception and Facilities, during periods of unavailability.
• Performs general clerical duties including but not limited to filing, photocopying, faxing, and mailing.
• May supervise one or more other employees

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong interpersonal skills
• Knowledgeable about HR concepts, practices, and procedures
• Knowledgeable about HR laws and regulations
• Must possess tact and be vigilant about protecting confidential information
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work in a dynamic environment
• Ability to understand and carefully follow written and verbal instructions
• Commitment to excellence and high standards
• Ability to work as a member of various teams and committees
• Proficient with web-based recruiting systems
• Proficient with Word, Excel and databases
• Self-organized and able to work effectively under general supervision
• Must be accurate and detail-oriented
• Associate's degree or higher with HR coursework and/or professional HR training/certifications
• 5+ years of experience performing similar functions
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus

Transportation: Occasional day trips to our Mountain View office or other remote locations in California are necessary. Valid Driver’s License and proof of current motor vehicle insurance are required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear, and use a computer keyboard and monitor. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Compensation: The compensation range for this position is $54,000 to $66,000 per year, 90% of which is paid on a semi-monthly basis, and 10% of which is paid quarterly provided that the employee does a good solid job. The position is eligible for an annual performance incentive of up to 5%.
